Description of Broome: Broome is a fascinating port and resort town on the western edge of the continent. Its origins as a pearling port introduced a multicultural population of divers. The Japanese dominated until World War II when Broome was evacuated then attacked by the Japanese. Today the pearls of Broome are cultivated rather than retrieved. Of interest are the Japanese Cemetery, Broome Crocodile Park, Pearl Coast Zoo, Broome Historical Museum and Eighty Mile Beach.
