Stawell is a former goldmining town located just off the Western Highway, 32 km north-west of Ararat. Famous for the professional foot race, the Stawell Gift, it is a major access point for Grampians National Park. Just south of Stawell are the wineries of Great Western. Stawell has many historic buildings, the Stawell Gift Hall of Fame, the goldmining remnants of the Big Hill Area, Sisters Rocks, the Aboriginal rock art of Bunjil's Shelter, Donovan Wines, Lake Lonsdale, Lake Fyans and Deep Lead Reserve.
