Kaniva is a small service centre to a wool-and-wheat belt. Located 18 km from the South Australian border, Kaniva has a main street divided by a large central plantation and lined with old buildings and verandah-fronted pubs. Kaniva calls itself the 'Wildflower Capital of the Little Desert'. This refers to its proximity to the Little Desert National Park. Other attractions include Kaniva Museum, the Iris Farm, a modest fauna reserve, the bushwalks of Billy Ho Reserve (to the south of town) and Mooree Reserve (west of town).
