Playing Squire at Duntryleague

ORANGE – DUNTRYLEAGUE

Situated only minutes from the CBD of Orange and about 260 kilometres West of Sydney, Duntryleague is the Central West's equivalent of a country club estate. Duntryleague takes its name from the heritage listed house of mid-Victorian splendour, formerly the Dalton family mansion. With its hilltop location, fine styling and magnificent trees and gardens, Duntryleague has beautiful aesthetic qualities. In 1849, James Dalton moved to Orange, purchased property and in 1876 completed the house where it stands today. The name Duntryleague was taken from his birthplace near Galbally in County Limerick, Ireland.

The mansion now operates as a guesthouse offering 14 rooms, a breakfast room, sitting room, wellness room, private functions and magnificent views over the golf course, gardens and city. The idyllic surrounds make Duntryleague the perfect location to relax and unwind.

Experience the ambience of a by-gone era by staying in one of the stately guest rooms amid the beauty and tranquillity of our picturesque grounds. Guests may choose to “play” or relax and simply “stay”. Enjoy the championship quality golf course, tennis courts, take advantage of our on premise golf pro or tennis pro to sharpen those skills, or utilise the Club facilities including two championship billiard tables.

Those wanting to just relax may take advantage of the wellness room for a well deserved massage, the Club bar and in the warmer months the covered deck with an unsurpassed view. Casual dining is available in the Club on Friday and Saturday evenings, with an a la carte restaurant due to open in late 2008.

There are reputedly 12,000 trees and shrubs on the grounds and golf course. The oldest trees are 132 years old, planted when the mansion was built. However, most trees were planted in the 1950's when the landscape architect Ilmar Berzins took charge. Since then many have contributed to what are now virtually private botanical gardens.

If you like the idea of playing country squire, there could be no better way to do it than to spend a weekend in Victorian splendour, enjoying the facilities and environs of Duntryleague.
